Workshop 1 – Day 3

Workshop Day 3 30th Jan– The third day of the workshop took on with Grace discussing the photo essays of the remaining groups. Everyone was then provided with newspapers and were asked to pick out interesting articles from it. Students then discussed the stories which fascinated them. The topic of each story was noted down which altogether at the end left us all with a number of ideas on which films can be made. This was a good exercise letting our minds open to think about different ideas.

Patrick then carried on with a session where participants talked about the ideas that they’ve come up with. This was an interesting session as different ideas aroused different views. There was interesting debates, arguments and counter arguments.

We were asked by the hotel management to take early lunch that day but having tea break a little time before that didn’t left anyone with any appetite.  At least this is what everyone told each other, but their plates illustrated a whole different story! Well I guess I can understand, who could deprive himself with that kind of meal. So that’s ok people.

Returning from the lunch break, participants were asked to divide themselves into groups of 3 people each. So they ended up making 8 groups of Karachi and 3 of Lahore students.

Group 1: Ali Sheikh, Mohib Billoo, Alifia Dairkee

Group 2: Ali Ahadulah, Ali Changezi

Once the groups were finalized, Patrick and Grace took each group’s photograph with them holding their group number (it was a bit funny and they seemed like people about to be imprisoned. I guess all this was done for a record). There were again interactive debates regarding the film concepts.

The day ended with the instructors showing a documentary called ‘Anyway Who Are You?’ and discussing the techniques used and the treatment of the film.
