Workshop Day 2

It’s 29th Jan, being one of the volunteers, here I am waiting in the van outside the guesthouse where all the Lahore students are staying. It’s a little difficult to get them in the van on time but once they are in, it’s all jokes, fun, laughs and more laughs. With all that we reach our destination and enter the venue. While waiting for everyone to arrive, one of the participants showed us his film “Gilgit Express” which definitely was a good work. Bravo!

In a little time, Patrick and Grace joined us too and the workshop day 2 formally began. Grace showed us the photographic essays of different teams, where they discussed different types of photographs. I must agree the teams had done pretty good job and were really successful in narrating a story through images and understood the intensions of this whole exercise. Later, Patrick assigned 30 minutes for the students in which they had to come up with their ideas for the film and make a proposal. Everyone went into their thinking mode and started jotted down their ideas. This session was broken with the lunch break. At lunch, every body enjoyed their meal talking, laughing and discussing their ideas.

As everyone gathered after lunch, there came a twist! We played a fun game. Students were distributed chits with someone’s name written on it, and the ones with ‘X’ on their chits had to present their proposal of the film in front of ‘The Jury’. Yes the Jury! And guess what, Patrick asked me to be one of the jurors! And there I was sitting on one of the chairs between Grace and Mr. Mushtaq.

The first one to fall into our prey was Paiman.  Five more followed after him. Each one of them was given 5 minutes to explain their ideas and 5 minutes for the jury to ask questions. We were permitted to be all harsh and bethe  scariest jury ever. I hope nobody found us that harsh (I suppose!!)  The students had ideas but were a little nervous in front of the jury. The whole experience of standing in front of a jury and eyes all staring on that person may be horrifying for some but well I’m sure they must have gained and learnt something from this. I can talk on my behalf-‘I loved it!’ being one of the jury members ; )

The day wrapped up with Patrick teaching how exactly to pitch in an idea for a film and showed a documentary called ‘Close Your Eyes And Look At Me’.  All in all a good productive/ fun day.
