Website and Internet

One of the components of the project is to introduce and give participants the opportunity to build an internet presence and following through use of the website and social media.  This is an important business and marketing skill that will be useful as they build their careers as film makers.

This week we have launched the new Filmmaking for Social Change Website.  The website has a new look and some added functionality.

Website

  • The look reflects the black and gold theme which is carried out by the logo on the Facebook Fan Page and Blog
  • The Facebook Fan Page is now integrated into the home page of the website for a quick view of what is going on and a quick link.  This makes it easy for people to see both the website and the Facebook Page – and join our ever growing fan base.   The group is growing daily and there is a lot of interest in the activities of the project
  • On the BLOG page the blog is integrated with the website.   If anyone would like to contribute writing to the blog please send me an email ( davies@eckova.com ) – we encourage your writing.
  • The website has a “SHARE ON FACEBOOK” link which makes it easy for you to share specific pages of the site with your own Facebook friends.
  • Sign up for the email newsletter.
  • Apply for the Pakistan National Film Competition

Facebook Page

  • On the discussion forum each group will have its own forum section – this is where you will be able to post information, questions and comments on your documentary.
  • Photo galleries – this has been very popular.  People tagging and commenting on photos and bringing back memories of the orientation and workshop.  As you are out on your shoots please take a couple of photos and put them up in the gallery on “Production” photo gallery.
  • The blog is integrated with the Facebook page and people are subscribing so that they receive notice when there is a new posting on the blog.
  • Fans receive messages

Blog

  • We have several people posting on the blog and would welcome others.  Your comments, thoughts, impressions of the project as it moves on would all be welcome.
  • We plan to add more IMAGES on the blog and any other suggestions are welcome.

Email Newsletter

The email newsletter will be going out next week with updates on the project.  Sign up to receive this on the website.

Filmmaking for Social Change 2010

Filmmaking for Social Change” is a project of the British High Commission Pakistan in association with the London International Documentary Festival (LIDF) and Eckova Productions.

The project aims that young Pakistani filmmakers gain access to international platform to showcase films that focus on the voices and stories of ordinary Pakistani people and consequently give more of a platform to real people and their demand for change and highlight issues of importance to them. Eckova Productions is the local partner implementing the project in the cities of Karachi and Lahore.

The project consists of 2 parts

The participants are thirty young Pakistani filmmakers from Karachi and Lahore with background in film from several universities and colleges.  Through the 3 month process the participants will produce 10 films. Three films will be jury selected and shown at the London International Documentary Film Festival (LIDF) in May.

As part of the project, a “Pakistan National Short Film Competition” will be held which is an open competition to young Pakistani filmmakers throughout Pakistan. See the website for details of eligibility and the application form.
